/What is a powerflush and how does it work?
A powerflush is a deep clean of your central heating system. We connect a pump to the system and push water and cleaning chemicals through the boiler, pipework and every radiator at high flow but low pressure, lifting out the sludge, rust and limescale that has built up inside. Once the system runs clean we drain it, refill it and dose it with inhibitor to protect it.
/How long does a powerflush take?
Most domestic systems are done in a day. Larger properties, systems with a lot of radiators, or badly sludged systems can take longer — we'll tell you what to expect when we quote, before any work starts.
/How do I know if my heating system needs a powerflush?
The usual signs are radiators with cold patches or cold at the bottom, radiators that stay stone cold with the heating on, a boiler that bangs or kettles, a boiler that keeps cutting out, hot water that runs hot and cold, or dirty black water when you bleed a radiator. Any of those point to debris circulating in the system.
/Will a powerflush fix cold radiators and a banging boiler?
In most cases, yes. Cold radiators and kettling are usually caused by corrosion debris and limescale blocking radiators, pipework or the boiler's heat exchanger. Clearing that restores circulation, so radiators heat evenly and the banging stops. If we find a fault a flush won't fix — a failed pump or a seized valve, for example — we'll tell you straight rather than flush and hope.
/Will a powerflush save me money on my heating bills?
A clogged system makes your boiler work much harder to heat your home, so it burns more gas or oil for less heat. Clearing the blockages lets the system run at full efficiency again, which usually shows up as lower running costs and a warmer house on the same thermostat setting.
/How much does a powerflush cost?
Price depends on the number of radiators and the condition of the system, so we quote per property rather than advertise a single figure. Send us your postcode or call 07375 125 565 and we'll give you a same-day quote with a fixed price — no surprises once we're on site.
/Which areas do you cover?
We cover Kent and East Sussex, including Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Maidstone, Cranbrook, Tenterden, Hawkhurst, Paddock Wood, Crowborough, Uckfield, Heathfield, Battle, Rye and Hastings. If you're just outside that list, call us — if you're nearby we'll still come out.
/Is it messy, and do you need access to every radiator?
We work on a closed system with the pump connected to your pipework, so it stays clean and tidy — we sheet up where we're working and take our waste with us. We do need access to each radiator so we can flush them individually and check the results, so please make sure they're reachable on the day.
/Do you add inhibitor afterwards?
Yes. Every flush finishes with the system refilled and dosed with corrosion inhibitor, which is what stops the sludge building straight back up. We'll also tell you whether a magnetic filter would be worth fitting to keep the system clean long term.
/Are you Gas Safe registered?
Yes — we're Gas Safe and OFTEC registered, and part of Boilers 24-7. Our reviews and ratings are earned under the Boilers 24-7 name, by the same engineers who'll do your flush.
